It may not be a burden to watch, but this racial drama feels too "by the numbers" and pedestrian despite the talent involved. What could have been a potentially great character study is marred by unsatisfying broad strokes.
The titular Shepherd does indeed save the day, and the entire film, which features a muzzled and surface level script that would make a great entry point for younger audiences beginning to learn about the treatment of Jews in World War Two.
